Darwin is the capital city of the Northern Territory of Australia, it is the least populated capital city but by far the most populated city in the Northern Territory with over 120,000 inhabitants.

Situated so close to the equator Darwin has two very distinct seasons, the wet season which takes place duing the Southern Hemisphere Summer and the dry season which occurs during the southern hemisphere winter.

Originally a pioneer outpost Darwin has become Australia’s most modern and most multicultural city, during World War Two the city was devastated by Japanese air raids after a lengthy rebuild the city was all but flattened by Cyclone Tracy on Christmas Eve 1974. It’s proximity to Asia on the edge of the Timor Sea makes Darwin a popular gateway to those travelling to and from Asia especially Indonesia.

Tourism is the second biggest economy in Darwin due to it being a staging point for trips to the world Famous Kakadu National Park to the East, Katherine Gorge to the South and Litchfield National Park . Further afield but still in the Northern Territory is Uluru or Ayers Rock which recieves over 400,000 visitors per years.

Due to the rugged terrain of the Northern Territory a Helicopter Flight is the obvious choice to show you those parts of the territory that so many other people discover when flying over it. There are a multitude of Helicopter Operators in the Darwin area offering Flights ranging from 15 minute Sunset flights to full day tours to any of the surrounding National Parks.

When you’re around Helicopters it is important to listen to the pre flight safety briefing and during the flights listen to the pilots instructions at all times.

Helicopters are very safe machines but can be very unforgiving if not treated with the respect they derserve. Despite the common misconception that Helicopters simply drop out of the sky in the event of an engine failure in actual fact a Helicopter can glide to the ground and land with zero forward airspeed which is actually safer than an Aeroplane especially when you consider that most Helicopter Flights are over rugged terrain with few areas to land an aeroplane.

Shop around when looking at Helicopter Flights in Darwin as their are a number of Helicopter Operators waiting to take your hard earned dollar.
